Things to do in New Carlisle
The charming downtown on Michigan Street is home to quaint architecture filled with local businesses known as The Village Shoppes as well as renowned restaurants. One of the most lauded eateries, Moser’s Austrian Café includes imported German beer and a rotating menu that keeps foodies coming back.
The New Carlisle area even holds important St. Joseph County history in its parks. Bendix Woods County Park, which boast 195 acres of hiking, mountain biking, ponds and playgrounds, was once home a Studebaker testing facility. Pine trees planted on the property in 1938 were designed to spell “STUDEBAKER.” The Studebaker tree sign, visible from the air, eventually was named the largest living advertisement by the Guinness Book of World Records. Meanwhile, Spicer Lake remains a 320 acre wetland safe haven for a number of endangered plants and animals, and gives locals an additional walking and birding option.
